What is the hop hop hop trend?
The hop hop hop trend is a short two-person video built on a camera trick. One friend stands right next to the phone, the other a few steps behind. Because the front friend is so close to the lens, they look huge and the one behind looks tiny, so when the front friend points, the one in the back seems to dance on command, and when the front friend lowers a flat hand, the one in the back seems to be squashed into the floor.
Then comes the payback: a cut, the two swap places, and the friend who was bossed around gets to do the bossing. That swap is what makes people watch it twice and tag a friend.
The hop hop hop dance, beat by beat
Almost every version follows the same order. The seconds below are from the 8-second clip this site makes, timed to the trend sound’s 123 BPM:
- Point (0 to 2.75 s): the front friend points at the friend in the back and flicks the finger left and right; the back friend hops and sways to it.
- Press (2.75 to 4.25 s): the front friend holds a flat hand above the back friend’s head and lowers it beat by beat; the back friend sinks into a squat.
- Swap (4.25 s): a hard cut on the downbeat, and the two have traded places.
- Point again (4.25 to 6.5 s): the other friend now leans into the camera and points.
- Press again (6.5 to 8 s): the flat hand comes down and the first friend squats, still going down when the clip ends.
Where the hop hop hop trend came from
The sound came first: a slowed edit of "Её парень" ("Her Boyfriend") by the Russian artist Shluzov started circulating on TikTok in late September 2026. Its chant of "hop hop hop" gave the trend its name. In mid-October duo videos using the sound began to take off, one of them passing 3.8 million views, and within days creators in Russia, Indonesia, the US and Latin America were posting their own. The story of the song is on the hop hop hop song page.
You will see the same dance under other names: the Gabi trend, after one of the first clips to go viral, and the "Her Boyfriend" dance, after the song.
How to film the hop hop hop dance yourself
If your friend is in the room, you can film it for free. What matters most is the distance and a phone that does not move:
- Prop the phone up vertically at chest height, or have a third friend hold it still.
- Friend A stands right next to the phone, half in the frame on one side. Friend B stands three or four steps behind, in the middle, with the whole body in view.
- Start the sound. A points and flicks the finger on the beat; B hops along.
- A lifts a flat hand so that, on screen, it hovers over B’s head, and lowers it slowly; B squats to match.
- Stop, swap places without moving the phone, and film the second half. Join the two takes with a hard cut on the beat.
Why so many hop hop hop videos are AI
Plenty of the clips in your feed were never filmed. People make a hop hop hop AI video instead, for simple reasons:
- Your friend does not need to be there: two photos from two phones are enough, even across cities.
- You can put anyone in it who agreed: a sibling, a partner, a pet, or a cartoon version of the two of you.
- The trick is hard to film well. Getting the hand right above the head and the cut on the beat takes many takes.
- AI video got good at it in 2026: models that take reference photos and a motion reference keep both faces through the swap.
How to make a hop hop hop AI video
Use the generator at the top of this page: upload two photos, one of you and one of a friend, or one photo of the two of you side by side, and it makes the whole 8-second vertical clip with the point, the press and the swap, no prompt to write. Each video costs 50 credits with Standard 480p or 100 credits with HD 720p (credit packs start at $4.99 for 50 credits), and you see the cost before you render.
Other routes are a CapCut template, which only runs inside the app, or prompting a general video model yourself, which takes several renders to get the swap right.

Tips for posting your hop hop hop video
Add the trend sound in TikTok
The file has no audio, so pick the hop hop hop sound in TikTok, Reels or Shorts and start it with the clip. The swap follows the sound’s 123 BPM, so it lands on the beat.
Tag your friend
The best part is the revenge after the swap. Tag the other person so they can repost it.
Use the trend hashtags
#hophophop and #hophophoptrend are the ones people follow; #gabitrend reaches the crowd that knows it by that name.
Post it while it is fresh

Frequently asked questions
What is the hop hop hop trend?
A TikTok duo dance from October 2026: the friend near the camera points at the friend behind, who hops, then presses them down into a squat with a flat hand; a cut swaps them and they repeat it. It is set to a slowed Russian song and often made with AI from photos.
How do you do the hop hop hop dance?
Put the phone on a fixed spot. One friend stands right by the camera, the other a few steps behind. Point on the beat while the back friend hops, then lower a flat hand over their head while they squat. Cut, swap places and repeat.
Is it the same as the Gabi trend?
Yes. The Gabi trend and the "Her Boyfriend" dance are other names for the hop hop hop trend.
What song is the hop hop hop trend?
A slowed edit of "Её парень" ("Her Boyfriend") by the Russian artist Shluzov. The hop hop hop song page has the details.
Can I do it alone?
Not really: the joke needs two people, one in front and one behind. With AI you only need their photos, not both of you in one room.
Can I do it with my dog or cat?
Yes, with AI. Upload your pet as one of the two photos; it keeps its own paws instead of growing human hands.
Can I make it with celebrities or politicians?
No. Photos of celebrities, politicians and other public figures are not allowed. Only use photos of yourself, of adults who agreed or of your own pets; you confirm this before every video.
Is HopHopHop.app connected to TikTok or the song?
No. It is an independent tool, not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by TikTok, Shluzov, their label or any creator; their names are only used to describe the trend.
